Rivalries rage on in lower leagues

Category: | 0 Replies

With the Williams Equipment Preseason Cup winding down to its February 25th final, things are only just getting started in the lower leagues. The name of the game is promotion and all and sundry are seeking strong starts to see them in good stead when the end of the season rolls around.

Things were kept tight in Division 1 as Wotton Football Club, St. Andrew Lions and Sunrise Ballers and Pride of Gall Hill all took one-goal wins in their latest games. It was only Bagatelle who got to flex their muscles against Deacons Football Club, coming away with a hefty 4-0 win.

The disparity was greater in Division 2 as Checker Hall and Red and White United both recorded 5-1 wins over WRBSSC and Cosmos respectively. Greens United also had a 3-0 result over Carlton Club on Valentine's eve in the Edwin Harding Zone.

In the Lambert Thomas Zone, Kick Start edged out the Barbados Youth Service but three points and three goals were given up for free to Hothersal Turning after Beverley Hills failed to show up at Friendship. Only one game was played in the Gregory Goodridge Zone and Ivy Rovers took the win in the high-scoring affair. Coming up against College Savannah, the Rovers netted five goals while the losers had three.

Division 3 also had wider margins than Division 1 with Eastern United taking the biggest win with a 3-0 result over Evans Maughan Academy in their game at Gall Hill. Also playing in the Gordon Douglas Zone, Chickmont had a 3-0 win over Lodge Road as well. Villa United had some resistance from Bydes Mill as they were forced to fight for a 4-2 result in their clash at Chapel.

In the 'Gas' Clarke Zone, Mavericks breezed to a 5-1 win over Wildey Sports Academy at Valery while Emmerton United made the most of a home-field edge when they dismantled Jackson for a 4-0 finish. Diamondshire Football Club rounded out the big wins in the zone with a three unanswered goals against Friendship Youth and Sports Club.
