Top teams making moves in lower leagues

Category: | 0 Replies

The tussle for the top spots continued in the lower leagues this past week with games being played each day. Across the divisions, games were spread the length and breadth of the island as the front-runners all seek promotion from their respective tiers.

In Division 1, Wotton Football Club remained at the top of Zone 1 taking a draw and a win against Blackspurs and Potential Ballers respectively this week to get up to 14 points. They are ahead of St. Andrew Lions (13) who won their only game this week, 1-0 over Haynesville.

Zone 2 saw Barbados Soccer Academy, Bagatelle, Pride of Gall Hill and the Barbados Defence Force all taking two-goal wins this week. On Monday, Bagatelle were outright winners with a 2-0 result over the BDF as Dario Stewart and Lawrence Jeffers scored back-to-back goals in the first half.

Soccer Academy had two goals in from Cassius Joseph and Ocean Sobers-Henry in the Deacons nets before the half broke. However, Deacons pulled one back through the efforts of Adika Marville before Micah Boyce made it 3-1 for BSA to see them to the top of the table with 15 points.. Pride of Gall Hill had a similar story against L&R United to secure second in the zone as Kale Greenidge and Zion Gollop gave the former a two-goal cushion before Rico Brathwaite cut the lead in half. Not too long after, Delano Callender added the third for Gall Hill to round out the win.

On Wednesday, Bagatelle had another clean sheet as Shomari Stevenson and Reshon Jones put two goals past L&R United. BDF were able to bounce back from Monday's loss with a 3-1 victory over Deacons. Deacons got their consolation goal from a strike by Nadico Smith, but the soldiers got theirs from Dario Ward, Nicholas Best and Jelani Bruce.

Whitehall Titans and Greens United racked up 12 points each to lead things in Zone 1 of Division 2 after taking substantial wins this week. With Whitehall holding the slim edge due to goal-difference, they pulled out a 3-1 result against Carlton Club on Tuesday. Rashad Phillips helmed the attack with a brace while Shakeil Clarke closed out the win. Tahire Niles scored for Carlton. Greens took their win in more spectacular fashion as they had four goals compared to one from Cosmos. Checker Hall were also in winner's row with a brace from Nathan Broomes and one from Kemar Rock

for a 3-0 victory over Red & White United.

Although Caribbean United are the leaders of Zone 2 with 9 points, it was fourth-place Central League Spartans who flexed their muscles this week with a 4-1 win over Beverley Hills. In Zone 3, the story was the same as the fourth-placed Route 16 United had the biggest win in the group with a 3-0 result over Maxwell.

In Division 3, Byde Mill were on fire and they made short work of Evans Maughn Academy on Monday. They picked up a 6-2 win to move up to third in Zone 1. Group leaders Chickmont Football Club beat Elite Sports Club 3-1 to get up to 15 points, six clear of second-placed Eastern United. Villa United was also good for a 2-0 win over Clarke's Hill.
Although they are deep in the dirt after having a handful of points deducted, Jackson picked up their first win of the season in fine style with a 5-1 victory over FC Mega Ballers. Diamondshire had similar fortunes against Wildey Sports Academy with a 5-2 finish. Mavericks Sports Club had a solid performance as well against Friendship Youth and Sports Club with a 3-1 result.
