Weymouth Wales after their big win last night
Weymouth Wales have stamped their dominance on Zone 1 of the Barbados Football Association Premier League after storming their way to the top of their group. Going into a top-of-the-table clash after both they and Abrahams United Silvers Sands won their first games on the opening day, the defending champions were merciless in the delivery of a 6-1 drubbing of the newly-promoted side.
After taking a 1-0 win over Empire in the very first game of the tournament and a solid showing in the Williams Equipment Preseason Cup, Silver Sands have proven themselves as a competitive side but were shown to need a bit more polishing against the 2018 CONCACAF Caribbean Shield entrants.
The nightmare began for Silver Sands in the 11th minute when Romario Harewood rocked the nets to get the ball rolling. Just eight minutes after, eventual Player of the Match Arantees Lawrence made it 2-0 with goal in the 19th minute before getting up to a brace in the 32nd.
After the break, the ordeal continued as Hadan Holligan got in on the action himself with goals in the 63rd and 77th minutes. It was a veritable free-for-all and defender Akeem Maloney drove the final nail home in the 88th when he put himself in the right place to head on a corner kick from Kemar Headley. When things looked like they were all over, Silver Sands were able to save some manner of face with a consolation goal in the 92nd from Cameron Lewis.
In the earlier game, Paradise opened their season with a 2-0 win over Clayton's Kola Tonic Notre Dame. With a goal coming on either side of the half, Armando Lashley was first to score when he made good on a penalty that came from a diving save from defender Caleb Morgan. The second half saw young, talented midfielder Elijah Downey getting his name on the card in the 50th minute to seal the deal for Paradise.
