After going down to 2017 triple-crown winners Weymouth Wales in their opening game last weekend, Brittons Hill United bounced back to pick up their first points of the 2018 Premier League. Coming up against Paradise yesterday in their Zone 1 clash, Brittons Hill romped to a sound 3-0 win in the first game at Empire.
With the two sides looking evenly-matched for most of the first half, Brittons Hill got the breakthrough in the 46th with a goal from Travis Coppin. In the second half, it was the Denzil Fordyce show as he earned his Player of the Game title with goals in the 66th and 77th. Despite trying their best, Paradise failed to make good on any of their attempts at goal as they fought to the final whistle.
The story was a similar one for Clayton's Kola Tonic Notre Dame as they too rebounded from a first-game loss against Paradise. This time around, they go the better of Empire Club, who are now on their second straight loss.
The Dames got off the mark in the 44th minute when Antone Greaves finished a play after being fed by Zeco Edmee. At the top of the second half (52nd), Edmee scored a goal that would help to see him being named Player of the Game.
Not too long after, Empire got an opportunity to pull one back when a hand-ball in the box gave them a penalty. Playing in his first game of the season, Jamaican transplant Omando McLeod easily converted the spot kick to round out the 2-1 result.
The nightcap game ended in a 1-1 deadlock as Home Improvement Hardware Compton refused to lie down for the University of West Indies Blackbirds. Compton were off the mark first when Jamar Blackett rocked the nets in the 7th minute of the game. However, UWI were not too far behind as Jamario Worrell made things even once again just six minutes after. Although no other goals came on the night, neither side pulled any punches and they fought tooth and nail to the end.
The league will be taking a break this week as the senior national team readies itself for the international friendly against Bermuda this coming weekend.
