Dames look destined to stay up

Category: | 0 Replies

Nothing short of a miracle can save Home Improvement Hardware Compton from going back down to Division 1 at the end of this season. That is because they have come out on the unfavourableend of their first relegation game.

Playing on Thursday night at the Wildey Turf, they were blasted by Clayton's Kola Tonic Notre Dame to see the Bayville based team take a 5-0 lead in the two-leg relegation series. Now with everything to play for in Game 2 on Sunday, Compton are highly unlikely to be staying in the top-tier.

By the end of the first half, Compton still stood a chance as Notre Dame were only able to score once in the period. Under-17 national Thierry Gale was able to beat stand-in keeper Andre Gill. However, it was the second half that saw them being ripped apart and placed in an uncomfortable position.

National striker Zeco Edmee stretched the lead in the 55thminute before Tramaine Cobham made it 3-0 in the 67th. Gale was not to be left out of the action and knocked home a second goal in the 75th. Edmee would also take a brace and he sealed the deal for the Dames with his second goal in the 86th.

With the Barbados Football Association in play-off mode this week, the earlier game on the night, was another relegation fixture. At the bottom of Division 1, Bagatelle and Parish Land are also in a battle to stay alive and Bagatelle drew first blood with a 3-0 drubbing of the Christ Church side.

Bagatelle held a 1-0 lead going into the break after Rodney Norville gave his team the go-ahed in the 4th minute. The score remained that way for most of the second half, but even more weight was pile on the scale as Brian Clarke and Eran Pointee both put the ball in the back of the nets in the 86th and 88th minutes respectively.

The play-off action continues on Saturday with three games. Parish Land have another bite at the cherry against Bagatelle in the first game at 5:00 PM. Wotton and Youth Milan close out their Division 1 promotion series at 7:00 PM, and St. Andrew Lions and RBC Capital Markets Barbados Soccer Academy go after the Division 1 championship in the nightcap at 9:00 PM.
