The Barbados girls have kept things clean in their opening match of the CONCACAF Girls Under-15 Championships. Playing yesterday at the IMG Academy in Florida, the local girls came away with a 0-0 draw against Curacao to keep their heads above the water at the start of the international tournament.
BFA Technical Director Ahmed Mohamed said that despite the hot weather the girls put in a commendable performance. “It was really hot and they did very well. We had a couple chances and the opponents had a few as well. That team is really improving. We are making good steps forward and it looks good and I like it. We have Bermuda tomorrow and that will be a tough game for us.” he said.
With an overwhelming percentage of the team new to this level of competition, Mohamed said that he was pleased with the progress of the girls over the last few weeks. “They handled themselves very well. I was quite surprised with how they handled the tempo – it was an intense game and they did very well. We had a couple good chances. The girls are now getting a taste of how playing at home compares to playing international level football.” he said.
