Ellerton and Paradise pick up points in cross-zone clashes

Category: | 0 Replies

Paradise kept their streak alive with a 2-1 win over Porey Spring

Crane and Equipment Ellerton were able to jump two spots up the ladder to land themselves in fourth place of Zone 2 when the Barbados Premier League continued this week. In a game that was rescheduled from Saturday evening, Ellerton snatched up two late goals help them come from behind in Tuesday's nightcap to dispatch the University of the West Indies Blackbirds.

The former champions were out the blocks early when Niall Reid-Stephen easily slotted a penalty past Jamar Brewster, who is one of the better goalkeepers on-island, in the 17th minute. The Blackbirds would take the lead into the break without extending it after creating several chances but failing to finish.

The second half saw Ellerton coming back with three goals as Shakille Belle pulled the first one back in the 64thafter dancing the UWI defence and slotting the ball past former national keeper Kerry Holder. With both sides trading punches throughout the period, it was Stanford's inclusion in the 75th minute that paid dividends for Ellerton. In only his second game for the St. George side, the diminutive striker had a touch on the ball in the 86th but it would be a blunder by Holder that saw the ball over the line to give Ellerton an own-goal. Stanford drove the final nail in the coffin in the 88th.

The earlier game saw Paradise FC edging out Mark's Auto Spares Porey Spring to remain the only unbeaten team left in the league. The Zone 2 runners-up opened the scoring the 22nd minute through the efforts of Sheran Hoyte.

However, Porey Spring refused to lay down and fought their way back to a goal in the 57th from Damion Thorington. Chances abounded for both sides in the remainder of the second half but Porey Spring would gift Paradise a penalty in the 75th. Armando Lashley stepped up to the spot and comfortably beat Anthony Rollins to bring up the 2-1 victory.

League action is set to continue tomorrow when the second half of the Youth Milan/Brittons Hill game is completed, while the customary triple-headers kick back up on Saturday and Sunday.
