Following a week-long break, the inaugural Barbados Football Association’s Women’s Futsal Challenge was back in action last night at the Oasis Facility, Kendal Hill, Christ Church.
Starting the ball rolling, Stargirlz faced the Catalan Giants in the first matchup of the evening, ending in a 2-2 draw.
While Stargirlz were looking to add three points to their score sheet and level the playing field with Females Can Ball (FCB) in Zone 1, it was not to be.
The Catalan Giants, who currently sit at the bottom of the barrel, pulled out all the stops in the first half, ending with a 2-1 advantage over Stargirlz.
Quaila Matthews opened the scoring for the night before Stargirlz’s Kayghun Rouse levelled the playing field. But it wasn’t long before Makala Alleyne pocketed before the final whistle was blown to signal the end of the first half.
However, Stargirlz came back with a renewed vigor in the second half and levelled the playing field, courtesy Alyssa Yard by the time the final whistle was blown, giving both teams a point each.
Stargirlz now has four points after four games, while the Catalan Giants now have a point to their name after the same number of games in Zone 1.
Meanwhile, in the nightcap game, the Wasps were still unable to get their stingers up and fell 2-0 to Girls With Goals (GWG) in their cross over match.
Soraya Toppin-Herbert scored the opening goal of the match in the first half and Joelle Gibson stole every advantage in the second half, leaving the Wasps goalless.
GWG now have three points after four games in Zone 2, while Wasps have the same number of points and sit in fourth position in Zone 1.
Additionally, FCB will face Pride of Lioness Ballers at 7 p.m. when the action continues on matchday 5, scheduled for Friday 30.
Futsal Shottas and Kopites are carded to meet at 8 p.m., while Exodus and Girls Playing Soccer (GPS) will round things off at 9 p.m.
