The Catalan Giants walked all over Girls Playing Soccer (GPS) 6-1 to book a ticket to the semi-finals of the inaugural Barbados Football Association’s Women’s Futsal Challenge tonight.
The Giants made a spectacular comeback after losing three games and drawing one for the tournament.
They dug deep and opened the scoring courtesy Kaitlyn Smith. However, GPS’ Keinelle Johnson put a spoke in their wheel momentarily when she equalized for her team.
Antonia Baptiste of the Catalan Giants pulled away giving them the lead, and the towering shadow of Makala Alleyne proved to be too much for GPS when she scored a hat-trick by the time the half-time whistle was blown.
As the second half continued, with all the confidence they possessed, the Giants managed a lone goal, but by then GPS was unable to make a comeback and gave way to their opponents.
With three points added to their scorecard, they are now tied with Stargirlz in Zone 1 on four points. However, Stargirlz is ahead on goal difference.
Meanwhile, Exodus who were neck and neck with Futsal Shottas in Zone 2, fell dramatically in a 5-0 defeat at the Oasis facility, Kendal Hill, Christ Church.
There was no stopping Rianna Cyrus who secured all five goals in the second game of the night for her team to book their passage into the semis scheduled for Saturday.
In the nightcap game, Girls With Goals (GWG) had one goal in mind, emerging victorious with a 5-1 win against Kopites.
GWG got on the scorecard early courtesy Soraya Toppin-Herbert. The winners went on to pocket two more from Joelle Gibson and Sharifa Corbin before the half-time whistle.
They returned energized and were able to score two more off the boots of Toppin-Herbert and Shauntae Hinds ahead of Kopites’ Hope Colucci, who managed a single goal before the final whistle.
