The Premier League of the Barbados Football Association has a new title sponsor in Coca Cola.
Following discussions between President Randy Harris and the renowned manufacturer, the 12 top-flight teams now have new backing for three years in the first instance.
In 2018, Digicel Barbados pulled out as the title sponsor of the Premier League, citing financial constraints. Since then, the BFA has backed all of their competitions with some sponsorship from corporate Barbados, but there has been no title sponsor.
While the ink has not dried on the dotted line as both entities have not signed just yet, Harris said he was happy to have the entity on board for the next three years in the first instance.
“I am really happy that Coca Cola has decided to sponsor us and become the title sponsor of the Premier League. I think that the BFA worked hard to deserve something like this. I think we earned it and that Coca Cola has seen the work that we’re trying to do in Barbados,” he said.
During the BFA’s first press conference last month, Harris said they had had some requests and were locked in negotiations.
“Coming out of Capelli SuperCup I have seen a heartening interest in the commercial district supporting football. That is promising because a couple of years ago it was so difficult even to get a word. So yes we’re still finalizing the little things, but we have discussions with a number of partners and as soon as we have signed on the dotted line when things are mutually beneficial, we will let you know”.
“We’re looking to have a number of partners, as many as possible, supporting the BFA. With them, we can work out ways to make our patrons and footballers happy. Sponsorship doesn’t always have to be in cash, but once we’re getting assistance in the things that we must do to make the tournament successful, that is all we need,” he had said.
In addition to Coca Cola, which includes sponsorship from Dasani and Powerade, Courts Ready Cash, Hott 95.3 FM, Starcom and the Nation Publishing Company Limited have also partnered with the BFA. Harris said he expected to wrap up those deals by week’s end.
