Recently promoted Abrahams United Silver Sands recorded a 3-2 victory over Empire last night, registering their first win of the season.
The Mighty Blues, playing minus Keymar Holligan and Omar Primus, who were both red-carded in the last encounter against Deacons, and Under-20 national players in Hashim Brewster, Jahmali Hutson and Abiola Grant, who were called away on national duty, were not in great form and found it hard to find their footing in their third encounter of the 2020 Coca Cola Premier League.
Two minutes before the end of the first half, Romario Clarke managed a goal for the Bank Hall, St Michael side, when he deposited a low cross from one of the Argentine Cigno brothers – Luciano – to give them the lead.
As the second half action rolled around, Silver Sands took the opportunity to show their dominance and Shakadoo Scott delivered for his side in the 63rd minute with a close-range finish into the nets.
Five minutes later, De’Shawn Bynoe solidified his team’s dominance with a volley straight pass Dale Addison, just ahead of Romario Bryan being handed his second yellow and being sent off with a red.
But the one-man deficit did very little to dampen Silver Sands’ light and 20 minutes later, Derrick Gale-Forde sealed the deal for the Christ Church side.
On the cusp of the final whistle being blown, however, Jamar Grazette managed to pull one back for the Mighty Blues in the 92nd minute.
Meanwhile, in the opening game, St Andrew Lions and Notre Dame left the team as equals following a 1-1 draw.
The Dames drew first blood when 34 minutes into the game Zeco Edmee was able to hammer home a spectacular shot in the penalty area to put his side up, all the way to half time.
However, Arantees Lawrence dame back in the 58th to equalize for the Lions and give them something to purr about when he got past Dames’ Shakib Kellman to leave the Turf on a similar footing.
