The Under-20 National Men’s team opened their Concacaf Under-20 Qualifiers with a 3-2 win over Bermuda.
Playing at the Juan Ramon Loubriel Stadium in Bayamon, Puerto Rico, the 17-man squad, under the charge of Head Coach Fitzgerald Carter, took charge, bolstered by overseas players PDA’s forward Nigel Griffith and Honaved, Budapest’s forward Thierry Gale.
While Bermudian Luciano Swan struck first with a penalty in the 22nd minute, Griffith equalized for the home town boys 11 minutes later.
Gale’s right footed shot from just outside the penalty area ricocheted off the uprights, but Griffith came in hard and catapulted the ball into the back of the nets, levelling the game.
Then in the 68th minute, Gale gave his side the lead. But the young Tridents were not out of the woods yet when Swan equalized for the Bermudians in the 72nd.
Disaster struck when the Bermudians were reduced to ten men after Malachi Trott was shown his second yellow card.
Five minutes later Gale took advantage and sealed the deal for the young Tridents, sending the home side into celebratory mode.
The action continues when the young Tridents face hosts Puerto Rico tomorrow.
