Barbados has been drawn into Group D in the Concacaf Preliminary Draw of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
Following a live draw at the home of FIFA in Zurich, Switzerland, earlier today, Barbados, who is ranked 162, was placed in the same group as Panama, the Dominican Republic, Anguilla and Dominica.
The senior Bajan Tridents will begin their crusade against the 81st ranked Panama on October 8, before doing battle with Anguilla five days later (October 13) at their home ground; the Wildey Turf.
The Barbados Football Association’s top-flight team will then face the Dominican Republic on November 13, before returning home to end their campaign against Dominica four days later on November 17.
Overseas match venues will be decided at a later date.
The six group winners from Round 1 will play in a home and away direct elimination format, which will see the winners of Group A battle Group F, Group B winners will face Group E and Group C will do battle against Group D.
The Final Round will feature the three winners from Round 2 and the five highest-ranked Member Associations (Mexico, Costa Rica, Honduras, USA and Jamaica) according to the FIFA/Coca Cola Ranking as at July 16, 2020.
After a home and away round-robin play, the three top teams will qualify directly for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, while the fourth-placed team will represent Concacaf in the FIFA intercontinental playoff in June 2022.
