The qualifying campaign for the Under-20 Barbados Football Association national men’s team came to an end last evening when they were defeated 2-0 by St Vincent and the Grenadines.
Playing in their final Group C qualifying game of the Concacaf Under-20 Men’s Championship at the Felix Sanchez Olympic Stadium in the Dominican Republic, the Bajan Tridents maintained a clean sheet up until the end of the first half.
However, as the second-half got off the ground, center-back Tyrique Bailey-Edwards took down Steven Pierre in the box, committing a foul. That was all the encouragement the Vincentians needed and striker Oryan Velox converted a penalty from about ten yards to put the opponents up.
Defender Kobe Hutson, who was eventually red-carded after challenging St Vincent’s Bishon Richards, who also converted from the penalty spot to seal the deal and give the Vincentians the victory.
Despite the defeat, kudos must be given to ace custodian Adam Mallalieu who stopped many a crucial shot on the night to keep the scoreline from being any bigger.
