Newly elected CFU 1st Vice President Randolph Harris is congratulated by Mr. Venold Coombs, President of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Football Association.

Basseterre - July 29, 2017

BFA President Randolph Harris been elected as 1st Vice President of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) when it held its Annual General Meeting at the Marriott Resort St. Kitts in Frigate Bay, Basseterre today.

Harris who already held a position on the CFU Board for a year was elected 18 votes to 8 when he went up against current 2nd Vice President Rignaal Francisca of Curacao for the position made vacant by the resignation of Mr. Cheney Joseph of Grenada.  Joseph resigned earlier this year from the Board.

Three nominations were put forward for the post of 1st Vice President leading up the elections. The other candidate Mr. Anton Sealy of the Bahamas opted not to contest the elections prior to the vote.

Mr Harris will immediately assume the role of acting CFU President since the President Gordon Derek opted to recuse himself from the position pending the outcome of an ongoing personal issue.

In September 2012 Randy Harris was elected in landslide victory to head the Barbados Football Association. Shortly afterwards he was nominated to the FIFA Beach Soccer Committee to serve as a member. Mr. Harris was also appointed on a special task force to looking to the setting up of a professional league within the Caribbean and in 2016 he was appointed to the Board of the CFU as a member. He now moves up as 1st Vice President of the CFU and acting President.
