Barbados whip host Guyana on opening game of U17 Girls Championships

Category: | 0 Replies

The game kicked off at 5:01pm with Barbados winning the toss. The Barbados team was visibly nervous and took a while to settle.

The Guyana team took full advantage of this and opened the scoring from a free kick in the 11th minute. This goal seemed to shake the girls somewhat. Five minutes later Caitlin Padmore ran on to a through ball from Asha Stevenson and equalized for Barbados.

The Guyanese girls’ aggression led to a free kick being awarded to Barbados. Keinelle Johnson took the spot kick in the 20th min which deflected off a defender and scored making it 2-1 to Barbados. The score remained the same into halftime.

No subs were made when the game resumed. In the 49th minute the captain Tia Briggs-Thompson scored a free kick. Tiana Sealy then took a shot from about 30 yards out to produce the 4th goal.

Kerisha Catlyn replaced Asha Stevenson in the 68th minute. In the 70th minute another free kick from the half line was awarded to Barbados. Captain Tia Briggs-Thompson took the kick and scored the long shot making it 5 goals for Barbados.

In the 72nd minute Lynzie Brathwaite-Armstrong replaced Tiana Sealy and in the 78th minute Olianna Bishop was subbed off due to pain in both legs and was replaced by Tori Belle. Final score was Barbados 5 – 1 Guyana.
