Weymouth Wales and senior national midfielder Hadan Holligan is the only Barbadian among a list of 22 Caribbean nationals invited to participate in the 2018 Adidas Major League Soccer (MLS) Player Combine. With the annual showcase scheduled to kick off in January, Holligan was fortunate to secure a spot in a field which sees players coming from Jamaica, Turks and Caicos, Bermuda and Trinidad and Tobago to name a few.
From January 9th next year the top professional league in North America will be hosting the players in the MLS Caribbean Combine which will then segue into the MLS Combine as they compete under the watchful eye of scouts with the potential to be signed to a club during an upcoming transfer window. Set for Fort Lauderdale for three days, the Caribbean Combine will see the invitees undergoing physical and mental tests as well as interviews to assess their suitability for the league.
Followed by the MLS Player Combine from January 11th and then the MLS SuperDraft on the 19th, players from the region have an amazing opportunity to impress coaches and scouts and get their foot in the door of one of the world's top professional leagues.
Holligan's selection sees him capping off a solid year which included wins for his team in the Digicel Premier League and the Stag Beer Champions Cup as well as taking the Best Midfielder title in the Digicel competition.
